Red Wings Gear Up for Season

DETROIT, MI (RWN) - After the Detroit Red Wings won a Stanley Cup in 2002, many feared that the team was headed for a rebuilding period and, with the departure of Steve Yzerman, Manny Legace, and Brendan Shanahan, it would seem that the time is now. But don't count the Red Wings out of it just yet, for the NHL season kicks off during the first week in October, but, for the thirty teams bidding for sports' most coveted trophy, the optimism starts now.

Congratulations to the Hershey Bears, winners of the AHL's Calder Cup Championship.

Carolina's Stanley Cup win on Monday night marks the third straight season that an Eastern Conference team has won it.

The Grand Rapids Griffins were swept in the AHL's Eastern Conference finals. The Griffins are the Red Wings' AHL affiliate.
