RALEIGH, NC (RWN) - The Carolina Hurricanes turned what could have been a catastrophic disaster into a Stanley Cup Championship Monday night, winning the decisive game seven 3-1 and clinching a league championship for the first time in team history.
Former Detroit Red Wing Aaron Ward scored just 1:26 into the first period, and the Hurricanes never looked back.
Carolina goaltender Cam Ward was awarded the Conn Smythe trophy as the playoffs' most valuable player.
